2022: shim’s crit / BBQ

Shim’s Ride 2022 rolled out a new look while retaining some key themes. With the goal of increasing our community involvement, we replaced the 24-hour ride with a criterium race around Windsor Park. We maintained our partnership with Praxis Spinal Cord Institute, unique branding and kit design 🌸 and a post-event BBQ at Oak Bay Bikes sponsored by a host of local Victoria businesses.

The race went off with a few hitches (Thanks to Jon Watkin for helping clear the parked cars before the event started..) however, for those familiar with Victoria cycling, the event was effectively a re-branding of the Victoria Wheelers Windsor Park race, which is always a staple of summer racing in Victoria, so we had a strong foundation to built off of.

With a beautiful pink SR/Praxis themed backdrop for the podium, Taylor Perry on the mic, Richard Peter (3 time Paralymic Gold Medalist) demonstrating some of the innovation that Praxis supports, 70 racers providing the days entertainment, University of Victoria Vikes Rowing volunteering, and the sun shining, the event was a perfect success.

After the race we gathered in the Oak Bay Bikes parking lot and enjoyed Fernwood Pizza, Category 12 beer and raised a glass to our community achievement of donating $24k to Praxis Spinal Cord Institute. This donation amount is enough to sponsor one pre-prototype venture through the 4 month Praxis Incubee Program.

Many thanks to all those involved and looking forward to SR 2023! <3
