2023: a bike race like no other

Shim’s Ride 2023 built off the criterium’s success the previous year. The format stayed the same, a criterium followed by a barbecue but the event improved in every way.

Shim’s Ride secured a Cycling BC race calendar position, increasing its visibility for athletes racing this summer.

Overall, race participation increased by 150% since last year! We even had athletes fly over from Spain specifically for this world-class event (shout out to World Tour ride Riley Pickrell).

All of this wouldn’t be possible without everyone’s support, including our sponsors: Jakroo, Oak Bay Bikes, The Victoria Wheelers, Dockside Physio, 11 Speed Coffee, Category 12 Brewing, OverPakr, Arc’teryx, and For Good Measure Cadboro Bay

Additionally, with Jon Watkin’s help, our venue quality levelled up to world-class with proper metal fencing and gantry, a finish-line truss!

We had increased Spinal Cord Injury community participation, with para-athletes bringing their arm bikes for everyone to try

We were able to raise over $23,000!

Thank you to everyone who was able to support us. This event is not only for a good cause, but it’s very special to us as it allows us to connect with everyone in the community and have our own little reunion. Shout out to Jay Wallace for donating his time and skills every year and capturing this year’s reunion photo, re-creating the original photo from two years ago.
